Crowns and Bridges

A dental crown is essentially an artificial tooth cap that is capped over a patient’s natural tooth with the purpose of providing more strength and support. Dental crowns are available in a variety of materials, such as resin, porcelain, stainless steel and gold. A crown is often used to protect a tooth after it has received a root canal procedure, or can be used to simply add structure and strength to a weaker tooth that has experienced decay or damage.

All About Crowns

A dental crown is essentially an artificial tooth cap that is capped over a patient’s natural tooth with the purpose of providing more strength and support. Dental crowns are available in a variety of materials, such as resin, porcelain, stainless steel and gold. A crown is often used to protect a tooth after it has received a root canal procedure, or can be used to simply add structure and strength to a weaker tooth that has experienced decay or damage.

When it comes to choosing the right material for your crown, there are a few factors to consider. For example, a stainless steel crown might be used as a temporary solution if the patient is waiting for a permanent crown to be created in the lab. On the other hand, a metal crown is often used to cap over teeth that are less visible in the mouth. Porcelain or ceramic crowns are the material of choice for a majority of patients, as they are very durable and provide a seamless and natural-looking result.

All About Bridges

A dental bridge restores the gap caused by a missing tooth by anchoring on to the two healthy teeth that surrounds it. The bridge is composed of a replacement tooth referred to as a pontic, and two crowns on each end that adhere to the patient's existing teeth. Bridges can be created from gold, metals or porcelain, and are permanently fixed in place (can only be removed by the dentist).
